Meet your Duty Officers!
Introducing Claire Henderson
Claire Henderson has been a Fremantle Sailing Club member since 2016, joining after completing her Keelboat Crew and Helm Course at the FSC Academy. Not long after, she and her husband acquired their first boat, Tosca, a Bavaria 34. In 2017, Claire became an active member of the Cruising Section Committee, serving as Secretary for several years. With a clear vision summed up in her two-line strategic plan “smaller house, bigger boat” she relocated to South Fremantle and upgraded to Malachite, a Hunter 45 CC.
She joined the House Committee in 2023, where she continues to serve, and has also taken on the role of Duty Officer, embracing the opportunity to contribute further as an ambassador for the club. She holds two RYA-accredited qualifications—Competent Crew and Day Skipper, as well as a WA Recreational Skipper’s Ticket (RST).
Outside of sailing, Claire runs her own bookkeeping business and works as an Education Assistant a few days a week. She’s an avid traveler and a passionate cruising enthusiast.

MEET ALPHA THORPE
Alpha Thorpe has been associated with Fremantle Sailing Club since 2006 and general member joining sailing activities with husband Stuart. Alpha's husband as racing sailors we have had Nuzulu in 2006 and moved to cruising boat " Ocean Views "(Beneteau 37) and 4 years ago decided to upgrade to "Sea Drive" current boat (40ft Hunter).Has been actively involved in the Cruising Section & Cruising Committee and sailing /social activities since 2017. Highlights include cruises away and progressive dinners for the last 8 years.
Migrated from Philippines with Business Degree in Economics - worked in various industry Australia Aged care in accounts team and moved to Employment Services in Compliance team as Claims officer with various programs funded by the Department. (Work Force Australia).
Since becoming a duty Officer in December 2024, Alpha as people person has actively supported various club events including the recent children Christmas party and appreciates clubs vibrant social atmosphere.
Outside work, Alpha actively involve in many volunteers & ambassador for charities with Filipino communities Leyte & Samar Inc. as treasurer (City where she comes from).
