Travlos Sisters Represent Australia at Youth Sailing World Championships
Fremantle Sailing Club’s Alice and Klara Travlos have proudly represented Australia at the Youth Sailing World Championships in Portugal, competing in the highly competitive 29er class.
The Youth Sailing World Championships is considered the pinnacle event for under 19 sailors, bringing together the best young athletes from around the world in an Olympic style environment. For the Travlos sisters, qualifying for the event marked a dream realised and a major milestone in their sailing journey.

The pair secured their place on the Australian Youth Sailing Team after winning the national selection regatta at Lake Macquarie in October 2025, following several days of intense racing and mental challenges.
From there, the campaign demanded months of preparation, training and fundraising. As a self-funded event, the opportunity came with significant commitment, with strong support from the Fremantle Sailing Club community playing an important role. Special thanks were extended to coach Chris Charlwood, Dinghy Section Captain and the Brazier family, along with members and volunteers who contributed to fundraising efforts.

Arriving in Portugal as part of the Australian Youth Sailing Team, Alice and Klara joined the world’s best young sailors in an environment that mirrors the intensity and structure of Olympic competition. Representing both their country and their Club, they embraced the challenge of racing at the highest level.
Conditions on the water tested even the most experienced crews, with strong winds exceeding 30 knots and demanding sea states throughout the regatta. In these tough conditions, the sisters delivered a standout performance, finishing among the few crews to complete racing on the opening day.

Beyond results, the experience provided invaluable lessons in resilience, preparation and the standard required to compete on the world stage. The sisters now plan to bring this experience back into their training, while also supporting and inspiring younger sailors within the Club.
Adding to an already impressive year, Alice and Klara recently claimed the 29er State Championship title for the second year in a row, continuing their strong momentum on the national stage.
A fantastic achievement and a proud moment for Fremantle Sailing Club. We look forward to following Alice and Klara’s journey as it continues.
