Fremantle Sailing Club has successfully secured funding from the Ron Tough Yachting Foundation (RTYF) to support an important Race Control communications upgrade, with the grant officially presented at last week’s Awards Night at Royal Perth Yacht Club.

Representing FSC, Rear Commodore Sail Jason Sylvester and Tim Brazier (Dinghy Captain) accepted the grant on behalf of the Club, which will assist with the purchase of three new fixed-mount VHF radios for the Race Control Tower, strengthening communication capabilities for race management and on-water safety.

For generations, the Ron Tough Yachting Foundation has played an important role in supporting Western Australian sailing, with a strong focus on youth participation, safety, training and pathways for competitive sailors. Each year, the Foundation provides grants to support sailors pursuing international opportunities, while also helping clubs invest in equipment and initiatives that strengthen participation, training and safety across the sport.

For FSC, the new radios and associated equipment will provide more reliable, high-quality communication to support safe and efficient on-water operations, benefiting sailors, volunteers and support crews alike. The upgrade will also strengthen the Club’s ability to host regattas and major events, while supporting future competitions including the 2028 Australian Optimist Championships.

We are incredibly grateful to the Ron Tough Yachting Foundation for its continued support of sailing in Western Australia and for helping FSC continue to invest in safer, stronger on-water operations for our members and volunteers.

A special thank you also goes to Scott Nunn, Snr. Sailing Administrator, for preparing the successful application and helping secure this funding for the Club.
