Light Winds, Perfect for Crew Training

The Selden for Sailing Sunday Series is an open event sailed in light breezes on Sunday mornings, providing the perfect opportunity for training new crew or simply relaxing and enjoying Cockburn Sound in the sunshine.

A six-race series sailed on the second Sunday of the month from October to April; it is a great complement to either the Success Cup or Coastal Cup for those looking to enjoy a couple of sailing days each month.

Having Fun is Number One

  • Open to yachts from all clubs, the series includes a Jib & Main Division and a Spinnaker Division. Prizes will also be awarded for double-handed entries in both divisions where there are more than five competitors.
  • The first warning signal is at 0855, with course lengths of 15–20 nautical miles for the Spinnaker Division and 12–15 nautical miles for Jib & Main. All boats are back at the Club in time for a BBQ lunch and presentations.
  • While light breezes are ideal for smaller boats and training new crew, there is also a good cross-section of inshore and offshore boats participating due to the casual, relaxed nature of a morning race.
  • PHS handicaps for both divisions cater for the broad range of boats participating.
  • Auto helm is permitted for all boats, so those who are short-handed on the day can still manage manoeuvres requiring an extra set of hands.
  • Introduction of the Club 35 Trophy for boats sailing with crew under 35 years of age, encouraging owners to bring younger participants into the Club.
  • An individual prize will be awarded to the under-35 participants on the winning PHS boat in each division.
  • Two participants aged under 35, along with two female sailors, will be randomly selected to receive prizes during the presentation ceremony.

Affordability is Key

  • Entry is free for all FSC members and only $30 per race for sailors from other clubs.
  • Overnight berthing is available for participating boats from other clubs.
  • All races are Category 6, making it easy for river boats to come and join in.
