FSC Safe Marina 2026 | fire prevention starts with all of us
This September, Fremantle Sailing Club is launching FSC Safe Marina 2026 – an eight-week fire prevention and emergency preparedness campaign.
A fire on one vessel can quickly threaten neighbouring boats, people and marina infrastructure, so fire safety is a shared responsibility.
Each week, we’ll focus on one practical area of marina fire safety, including shore power, batteries, fuel, LPG, firefighting equipment, housekeeping and emergency response. The Harbour team will reinforce these topics during routine pen and compliance checks.
Week 1 – Fire Prevention
Take five minutes to look over your vessel from a fire-prevention perspective:
- Check electrical leads for damage, loose connections or signs of overheating.
- Check for fuel, oil or gas leaks and unusual odours.
- Keep access to your vessel, escape routes and emergency equipment clear.
- Remove unnecessary combustible materials from your vessel and jetty.
- Make sure marina fire equipment is clear and accessible.
What the Harbour Team Will Be Looking For:
During routine pen checks this week, we’ll be looking at:
- The general condition and current test tag of shore power leads.
- Visible fuel or oil leaks and strong or unusual odours.
- Clear access to vessels and emergency equipment.
- Excess combustible storage on vessels or jetties.
- Any obstructions to marina fire equipment.
Member Action for the Week:
Download the five-minute Safe Boat Self-Check and complete it for your vessel.
It’s a quick way to identify simple issues on your vessel before they become bigger problems.
Small corrections made early can prevent a serious emergency.
Protect your boat. Protect your neighbour. Protect your Club.
