Fire System Upgrade – Stage 1 & 2 COMPLETE!

Published On: February 10, 2026
A major step forward in FSC’s journey to full fire compliance

Back in 2021, a safety assessment confirmed that FSC’s fire protection systems no longer met modern standards. Since then, we’ve been working through a major three-phase upgrade designed to bring the entire Club into full compliance – safely, strategically, and without disrupting marina operations.

Today, we’re thrilled to announce that Stage 1 and Stage 2 are officially complete. This is a significant achievement for the Club, our members, and the long-term safety of our facilities.

Andrew Raven (Facilities & Projects Manager) and Sam Blackburn (Harbour Master) on the marina, leading the delivery of FSC’s major fire system upgrade.

Stage 1: Clubhouse, Water Supply & Pump Infrastructure

Stage 1 delivered the essential backbone of the new fire system, including:

  • Construction of the new Pump House
  • Installation of two electric/diesel fire pumps
  • Two new 144kL water storage tanks
  • Upgrades to the clubhouse hydrant ring main
  • Connection to the Water Corporation fire network

These works established the core infrastructure that supports all future fire protection upgrades.

The newly installed 144 kL fire water tanks, now operational on site.

Stage 2: Hardstand & Works Area Hydrant upgrades

Stage 2 expanded the fire protection network across the hardstand and works area. This included:

  • 2,150 metres of new underground hydrant mains
  • More than 35 new hydrant assemblies

This significantly improves emergency coverage and builds directly on the foundations laid in Stage 1.

The System is Now Live – And DFES is Watching

With both stages now activated, the upgraded hydrant and hose reel network is fully operational and monitored in real time.

Most important for members to know:

If a fire hydrant or hose reel is used, DFES is automatically dispatched immediately.

There is:

  • No manual alarm
  • No cancel button
  • No grace period

Incorrect activations will result in a DFES callout fee.

A Friendly Reminder: Hose Reels are not for Washing Boats

We know, the pressure is fantastic….

But fire hose reels are for emergencies only.

Using a hose reel to wash your boat will trigger a DFES emergency response – and the associated cost.

Thank you – and What’s next?

Completion of Stages 1 and 2 marks one of FSC’s largest infrastructure projects in recent years. Thank you to our members, staff, contractors, and everyone who navigated diversions and construction impacts along the way.

With these stages complete, we now move toward Stage 3, focusing on the jetty network and marina-based fire protection, the final step to achieving full Club wide compliance.
