Cruising News: What’s Coming Up

Published On: October 13, 2026

There’s plenty coming up for the Cruising Section over the next few weeks, from the Melbourne Osaka Cup Q&A and our popular Progressive Dinner to the Twilight Season Briefing ahead of the return of Wednesday night sailing.

Looking into November, we also have Annie’s Art Show and the next Jib & Main sail, with plenty more to look forward to as the season gets underway.

Here’s the latest from the Section:

Melbourne Osaka Cup Q&A | Thursday 15 October

Tomorrow, Thursday 15 October, the Cruising Section is helping host an Information & Q&A Session for the 2030 Melbourne Osaka Cup, a 5,000 nautical mile, non-stop and unassisted double-handed yacht race from Melbourne to Osaka.

Join us from 7pm to hear from past competitors about their experiences, preparations and what it takes to tackle a race like this.

All members welcome. No registration required.

Progressive Dinner | Saturday 24 October

One of the Cruising Section’s most social nights is coming up, with the Progressive Dinner on Saturday 24 October bringing everyone together for an evening of good food, good company and a little boat-hopping along the way.

Start with bubbles on the Sunset Deck, then make your way between boats for each course before everyone comes back together at the Club for port and chocolates.

A lovely way to catch up with fellow cruisers and meet some new faces too.

Registrations close this Saturday 17 October, so make sure you put your name down!

Book your place here, or for any questions, get in touch with the Cruising Section at cruising@fsc.com.au.

Twilight Season Briefing | Wednesday 28 October

Ahead of the return of Twilight Sailing in November, the Cruising Section is hosting a briefing night on Wednesday 28 October at 6pm on the Sunset Deck.

The evening will cover safety, sailing courses, the start boat and the Pink Flag initiative for new skippers, with time for questions and a chance to catch up with other skippers and crew.

Nibbles will be provided from 6pm and drinks will be available to purchase from the bar. Anyone keen to stay on afterwards can enjoy dinner from the Club menu, including the Wednesday Curry Night special.

There’ll also be a few door prizes on the night!

No bookings required.

AkzoNobel Twilight Sailing Returns in November

AkzoNobel Twilight Sailing is back for the 2026–27 season, kicking off on Wednesday 4 November.

Make the most of Freo’s long, warm evenings with a relaxed Wednesday sail on the Indian Ocean from 6pm, followed by a catch-up back at the Club with $10 food specials and weekly prizes.

Twilight Sailing will continue every Wednesday through to April, with a break over the Christmas and New Year period.

Boat registration is required to receive updates and any changes throughout the season.

Register your boat here.

Annie’s Art Show | Saturday 7 November

The Cruising Section presents a special exhibition by fellow Club member Annie Otness, with Opening Night on Saturday 7 November from 5.30pm to 7.30pm in the Bridge Room. The exhibition will continue on Sunday 8 November from 10am to 2pm.

An artist, author and poet, Annie has enjoyed a lifelong passion for creativity. The exhibition will feature a collection of her original artwork available for purchase, with proceeds supporting projects of the FSC Marine Environment Committee.

Come along for a browse, discover Annie’s art and support a great cause within the Club.

No bookings required.

Jib & Main Sailing | Next Sail Sunday 15 November

With the Fremantle Harbour Classic taking place this Sunday 18 October, there’ll be no regular Jib & Main sail this month.

Our next Jib & Main will be on Sunday 15 November, when the usual monthly sailing program resumes.
