Angling Section June Competition

Boisterous winter skippy were out and about during the June Angling Section competition, much to the delight of the anglers because the heaviest skip had a $100 bounty on its head as the targeted species of the month.

Ray Wilson, fishing with Chris Walkey aboard their Trophy, thought he was in with a show after landing his limit of eight skip, with some ticking over the 1kg-mark.

Chris also had half a dozen fish from a spot north of the Windmills in 20m but Ray had his measure, and come the weigh-in John Bech also talked up his chances of claiming the prize.

But when push came to shove, George Greaves ambled up the scales and topped them all with a 1.2kg fish taken off Rottnest.

It not only gave George the $100 targeted fish prize, but his skippy is also the heaviest so far this year which will potentially give him another award at the end of the season.

Chris, already winner of three, monthly comps this year, was again victorious with a points tally of 83.04, edging out Ray who had 74.58 and a bag weight of 9.58kg.

Aside from skippy, Chris landed a nice king George, some herring, sand whiting, a squid and a couple of snook.

Aside from George’s skippy, the catch of the day belonged to John who boated a bloated 1.4kg flathead, the biggest of the year.

Dhufish, the targeted fish for June, will carry over with anglers reluctant to head wide because of the early gusty southerly. The July competition is scheduled for July 2 when tailor takes the top  billing as the nominated species.
